Jane is on day 24 of the 30 day treatment plan for chemo/radiation. If all goes well (no snow days or other unexpected issues) the last day is Thursday, February 2.
As predicted, as Jane approaches the end of treatment she is very uncomfortable with radiation burn and her intestines are impacted by exposure to radiation (enteritis). With new dietary restrictions, due to enteritis, we have been getting more creative with simple soups. Tonight we will enjoy a friend's homemade chicken soup with matzo balls and tomorrow I am taking a crack at making wonton soup with another friend's homemade beef broth.
Up until now Jane has been reporting to duty at work daily. Because she is getting very uncomfortable, she has decided to work from as much as possible until treatment ends. We expect that the severity of the symptoms will continue for one to two weeks after treatment ends.
While feeling under the weather, Jane is cheered up by your encouraging texts and posts on the blog.
Thank you all for your love and support of Jane.

I'm so sorry that Jane is feeling the cruel and painful grip of chemo and radiation. The Italian mother in me is frantic that she is having trouble eating. Mangia, mangia - my internalized grandma cries! But soups are fantastic vehicles for well-being and well-wishing - all good things, warm and soothing, to make you feel as if mother-love itself was pouring out to warm the bowl. Hang in there, beautiful and beloved Juanita! A month from now, you will feel better! Love you, sending you hugs - Cathy
ReplyDeleteLove you lots mama!

ReplyDeleteDearest Jane, You are in my thoughts and I prayed for you today. I do hope that you can tolerate this treatment and get through this next week. Since this is the best way to communicate with you and i want to cheer you up, let me tell you that I'm smitten with someone of the male persuasion! His name is Dean and I had such a lovely weekend with him. I'm crossing my fingers that this relationship can grow and thrive. I hold you in my heart this week my darling.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you are having these awful side effects. You are wise to work from home and hopefully be able to find ways to be more comfortable there. You are almost done with this phase though and you have seen how strong you can be, each day at a time. Stay cozy and rest, sweetie. Sending love and hugs - Sabine
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of you as you go through this last, hard week of radiation. After this week, you'll be done with this part of things. I know you'll push through it like the trooper you are. I'm thinking of you and holding you in my heart. If you need anything -- no matter what it is -- let me know. Love you Jane. You can do this.
ReplyDeleteohhhhhhJaney my love, sending you light and peace as you move through this winter of healing. Soup is so comforting and I bet

Stevie you Rock!!!!
Hi Jane, sent you an email, but I'm not sure I have your current email address or if you are checking email. Then I found this blog. Thinking of you and sending lots of positive energy your way. It sounds like tomorrow is the last treatment --I hope it all goes well and you will have some time for healing and some pleasant times before the next phase. Because you are a charter member of the "nourishment club," I don't need to remind you to eat (although perhaps fluffernutter is not be the best option right now). When you are up to it, I would love to talk and arrange a visit when you are up to that. In the meantime, hang in there -- I know his must be really challenging (i.e., it Sucks!), but you will push through and you have lots of support. Love, MJ
